Monday, our first full day in France. We have arrived at the King of the Mountain Lodge in the old school house - L'Ecole - in Le Rivier d'Ornon, France. We are a bit jet lagged. The view at right is from the tiny village of Le Rivier looking down the valley of the Col d' Ornon. Rivier is actually about 10 KMs up the road from the village of Bourg d'Osain, 8 KMs of which are climbing the actual col itself. we are 3 KMs from the summit which is about 640 feet above Rivier. I know this because I rode it this morning while we were waiting for Hank's bike to arrive. This means that pretty much any ride we make from our base here at the L'Ecole will entail a ride back up most of the Col d'Ornon just to get home. We are going to get some kind of fit while we are here. So I lied about my next stop being Alpe D'Huez as there I am clearly pictured below at the top of the Col d'Ornon after the short climb up from our lodge. The good news is Hank's bike just got here so we will go put it together and be riding down the Col d"ornon into Bourg d'Osains and possibly up Alpe d'Huez this afternoon if the weather holds. Also pictured at bottom, Hank and I are reduced to playing yet another game of Scrabble whilst waiting for his bike. Au Revoir!
